On October 20, 2018 I attended the Bankstreet Book Fest in New York. It was such an inspiring experience to listen to educators, illustrators and writers talk about the work they do in children’s literature. I also got to meet John Parra whose work is amazing. I participated on a panel titled Bringing the Real World to Life! Illustration in Informational Books about non-fiction storytelling and illustration. We gave short presentations about our research and process then discussed certain issues and topics about dealing with the subjects of our books.

For my presentation I showed some of the original pencil sketches and thumbnails from the process of making Photographic: The Life of Graciela Iturbide. I decided to focus on the section of Juchitan and the Nuestra Señora de las Iguanas photo from 1979.
