Hopi Sun - Process
I worked very closely with the client on this concept. The idea morphed and progressed. The design for this piece was inspired by the Hopi sun face symbol and the idea of tea as medicine. The Tippi Teas logo already employed the use of some teas leaves. I adapted these into a more graphic and simplified image that was more coherent with the Hopi style. After going through many drafts and mock ups as well as colors, and design elements the project went into production.
Each piece of wood was mapped out with angles and measurements. Then each piece of wood was routed by hand with a jigsaw, sanded down, and primed to paint. I used tape masks and aerosol for most of the piece. Then finished the job by sealing everything with two coats of Spar Varnish. Got some installation help from a contractor friend, Mike Conway.
I hope everyone in the EP area will take the time to support this business. They have an amazing selection of teas and herbs. Tippi Teas on Doniphan at Mesa in the Crossroads area. Visit their Facebook.
