Making Nopalitos

This painting is my first oil painting. I tried a technique that didn't go to well so it took a really long time to fix my mistakes (I won't show you those because they are pretty bad, haha.) These photos show the process of painting the pattern for the headdress fabric. I used a quick acrylic underpainting because I was impatient to get to the detail. The stick you see is a mahl stick to steady the hand and is hand-made from a yucca stem I was given in the mountains. In my mind this painting is still not finished but I've had to move on.
